About the Role

The Medical Affairs Scientist (MAS) role family includes various medical scientific specialties. This position serves as the Pfizer Japan medical scientific point of contact for healthcare professionals, medical societies, regulators, academia, and other external stakeholders. The role involves leading and developing a team of Medical Affairs Scientists to uphold the highest scientific standards, independence, and compliance in all medical and scientific external activities, as well as internal processes in collaboration with MAS Medical.

Responsibilities

Guide and develop team members to optimize product values from a scientific perspective.
Lead and develop team members through appropriate assignments, coaching, appraisal, and feedback.
Effectively manage and lead change in an evolving healthcare environment.
Collaborate effectively and demonstrate leadership and teamwork with peers, internal stakeholders, and external customers.
Provide and exchange medical/scientific information with medical institutions and other sources.
Drive understanding of clinical and medical attributes of products to enhance safe and efficacious use.
Maintain the highest scientific standards in all activities.
Contribute to the implementation of local medical strategies and life cycle clinical plans.
Make significant contributions to decisions on medical strategies for assigned products.
Develop and execute the medical plan aligned with the medical strategy to meet unmet medical needs in Dermatology.
Identify unmet medical needs and healthcare disparities in Dermatology through medical activities.
Create an activity plan with senior Medical management to address needs and fill data gaps.
Develop a Customer Facing Medical Plan in Dermatology to establish scientific peer relationships.
Execute the Customer Facing Medical Plan in Dermatology, including medical communication, advisory boards, and data generation.
Provide subject matter expertise and high-quality scientific exchange, offering insights to shape strategy.
Collaborate with medical stakeholders as a scientific expert.
Establish strong collaborative scientific relationships through non-promotional activities.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive stakeholder map.
Handle Unsolicited Medical Request (UMR) responses.
Follow up on clinical investigator-sponsored research and medical grants.
Acquire extensive medical/pharmaceutical information and gather the latest medical information.
Deliver key medical and scientific activities within the medical plan, including educational materials and real-world evidence generation.
Establish reliable, long-term relationships with stakeholders.
Establish deep peer-to-peer scientific relationships with leading HCPs and specialists.
Provide feedback on information and views obtained from stakeholders to relevant departments.
Enhance opportunities for evidence creation by sharing medical field issues.
Optimize patient centricity of medical communications and deliverables.
Align, contribute, and collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders.
Provide feedback on product life cycle strategies to related divisions/departments.
Collect and analyze unmet medical needs and seek solutions.
Provide scientific input for scientific meetings and materials.
Provide medical education programs.
Observe the code of conduct, company regulations, and compliance.
Conduct activities in compliance with MHLW Guidelines for Prescription Drug Sales Information Activities.
Ensure activities and communications comply with all policies, guidelines, and regulations.
Ensure awareness of responsibility for reporting adverse events.
Contribute to Business Development in Dermatology, identifying unmet needs and potential therapies.
Rapidly respond to critical supply issues from a medical perspective.

Requirements

Minimum requirement: 4-year university undergraduate degree AND master’s degree in life science, OR Pharmacists.
4-year university graduates with pharmacist license and master’s degree or above or equivalent life science research experience.
6–year university graduates with pharmacist license.
Nurses with master’s degree or above.
Veterinarians.
Dentists.
MDs.
Preferred: MD (clinical experience, board certification preferred), or PhD in Life Science.
Experience in Dermatology.
People management experience.
Medical/pharmaceutical expert knowledge of therapeutic disease area/products.
Coaching and management skills in developing employees and building effective teams.
Leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, develop, and lead a team.
Ability to communicate appropriately and build good relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

Work experience at functions of: Medical Affairs; Development and/or Research preferred.
Scientific publication experience preferred.
Medical science liaison experience preferred.

Able to understand written and spoken English and Japanese in assigned therapeutic disease area, and scientific interactions.
Minimum TOEIC score of 850 preferred.
