About the Role

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated individual to join their Transportation Center. This role involves escorting and transporting patients, delivering supplies and equipment, and performing various support duties within a healthcare setting. The position emphasizes courtesy, sound judgment, and initiative in patient and staff interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Escort and transport patients to and from various clinical services and patient units.
  • Deliver specimens and equipment.
  • Perform cleaning of equipment as directed.
  • Send and deliver carts on the supply transport system.
  • Assist in the instruction and training of new Transport Assistants.
  • Transport new admissions, in and outpatients between patient units, x-ray, outpatient departments, Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Ambulatory Surgical Center and various clinical services.
  • Assist nursing staff in restraining disturbed patients and handling unusually heavy patients.
  • Transport deceased patients.
  • Pick up and deliver items such as specimens, patient records, requisitions, patient mail, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Transport and set up equipment such as overhead frame and trapeze and footboard.
  • Distribute meals and snacks to patients.
  • Make beds and help with stocking of shelves with linen and other supplies.
  • Perform duties as clothing room clerk.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift patients, supplies, and equipment.
