About the Role

Felton Institute has been providing comprehensive early care and education services in San Francisco since 1971. We are committed to inclusive, positive environments that build on children’s positive self-esteem and self-image. This role is responsible for the assessment, teaching, and implementation of identified developmental goals for children with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other classroom teachers to implement individual and group activity plans.
• Make recommendations to the Head Teacher and EI team regarding curriculum planning and modifications.
• Write and provide anecdotal and progress notes.
• Attend meetings and manage record keeping.
• Work with parents and serve as a liaison to the EI team.
• Work closely with other teaching/staff in the development of a comprehensive children’s program.
• Work cooperatively as a team member to carry out assigned tasks including activities, child care duties, housekeeping, and record keeping.
• Greet parents or guardians cordially and professionally, exchanging accurate information concerning the child’s needs and daily activities.
• Create a warm, nurturing, and respectful atmosphere for children to learn and grow.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs and interests of each child.
• Provide educational and therapeutic activities for children across various developmental areas.
• Work cooperatively with parents, staff, and third-party consultants to meet the individual needs of children and their families.
• Complete and maintain development records for clients.
• Supervise children under care at all times to ensure their safety.
• Follow protocols and procedures consistently.

Requirements

• Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must hold State of California Commission of Teacher Credentialing Assistant Permit or higher.
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and TB screening upon hire.
• Must pass a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and a Child Abuse Index clearance upon hire.
• Must be able to lift 25-40 lbs.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, lower and raise self from floor, and use both hands to grasp securely.
• Must be able to move quickly in an emergency situation.
• Ability to relate to children and adults in a positive, respectful manner.
• Ability to independently understand, speak, read, and write English adequate to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently under broad supervision.
• Ability to be a team player with a welcoming attitude.
