About the Role
Major Food Group is seeking a Sommelier for Dirty French, an energetic bistro located in the Ludlow Hotel on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Dirty French offers classic French cuisine with modern techniques and bold flavors, holding a two-star rating from the New York Times.
Responsibilities
- Assist guests with wine, sake, and champagne selection, considering their taste and budget.
- Anticipate guest needs and provide information about venues, menus, and pricing.
- Explain how wine, sake, or champagne selections complement food and dessert menu items.
- Ensure wines, sake, and champagnes are presented and served correctly according to company standards.
- Inform guests of alternative selections if their choice is unavailable.
- Provide engaged, friendly, and attentive customer service.
- Practice the highest regard for safety in all areas and with all materials.
- Follow and adhere to all standards set by the Department of Health (DOH) and appropriate Federal/State Liquor Control Boards.
- Perform other duties as instructed by management.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a Sommelier in an upscale, high-volume restaurant.
- WSET certifications preferred or certifications from another accredited wine institution preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of wine and wine service techniques.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Positive attitude.
- A “guest-first” mindset.
- A passion for providing exemplary guest service.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Sense of urgency.
- Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours; bend, push, pull; lift 30 lbs.
- Clean and organized working habits.
- A commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
- Ability to think quickly on your feet and multi-task with ease.
- Ability to take direction and communicate effectively.
