About the Role

The Real-Time Energy Market Trader I will optimize the New York Power Authority's (NYPA) diverse generation portfolio in the NYISO real-time market. This involves developing bidding strategies for energy and ancillary services for NYPA’s generation assets, purchasing and managing fuel supplies, optimizing hydro reservoir storage, and responding to market conditions. The role requires coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure reliable unit availability and alignment during outages. This position contributes to NYPA’s mission of delivering affordable, clean, and reliable energy.

Responsibilities

Execute daily functions required by NYISO as an LSE, Power Supplier, Transmission Customer & Market Participant
Develop, monitor, and adjust bids/schedules and forecasts to ensure adherence to strategy, fuel management constraints, contractual obligations & appropriate governance
Review and analyze market conditions to develop & submit bids for all NYPA assets/portfolios on an hourly/daily/forward basis
Manage NYPA trading tools to reduce NYPA exposure to market volatility
Stay current with NYISO procedures, market issues and reports

Requirements

Familiar with Wholesale Electricity Market, Fuel Markets and/or associated Financial products
Basic business, statistical, financial, analytical and reasoning skills
Strong analytical and communication skills
Able to adapt, multitask and work under pressure
Utility or Energy Company experience preferred
