Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriateness of therapy and contact physician to clarify or modify order when necessary.
  • Provide verbal and written educational materials to patients when appropriate.
  • Follow policy for documentation of critical values in the patient's medical record.
  • Assist with patient care decision making by communicating with physicians, nurses, and other health care team members and by making appropriate decisions as needed in emergency situations.
  • Provide airway care including the maintenance of a patent airway through intubation, tracheostomy care, clearance of airway obstructions and reversal of bronchial narrowing due to bronchospasms and inflammation of the airways.
  • Extubate patients when appropriate and provide appropriate airway care following extubation.
  • Provide care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations in the hospital intensive care, non-critical care areas, and the emergency room.
  • Apply and maintain invasive and non-invasive ventilation systems to critically ill patients of all age groups.
  • Draw blood samples and analyze and interpret the results of blood tests.
  • Assemble and troubleshoot Respiratory Therapy equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA, JRCTE, or CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program with a minimum of an associate’s degree.
  • NYS Respiratory Therapist license.
  • A credentialed RRT/CRT by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Experienced with all basic respiratory therapy modalities, mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, patient assessment, and arterial blood gas collection/analysis.
  • BLS, PALS, and ACLS required - American Heart Association.
  • One year critical care experience is preferred.

  • USD $58.37 - USD $58.37 /Hr.
