About the Role
The Analyst, Payroll Compliance will analyze payroll data, manage payroll-related transactions, and collaborate closely with the finance department to support accurate and timely reporting. They will ensure payroll practices align with financial goals and comply with collective bargaining agreements and government legislation.
Responsibilities
- Research and interpret legislative requirements impacting payroll processes, ensuring compliance with labour laws, tax withholdings, and wage reporting.
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports related to payroll expenses, tax liabilities, and compliance metrics.
- Work closely with the finance team to ensure payroll processes and controls align with overall financial objectives.
- Support budgeting and forecasting related to payroll expenses.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of all payroll-related accounts, including vacation, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Lead and coordinate payroll audits focusing on financial discrepancies, compliance issues, and overall accuracy of payroll transactions.
- Identify payroll risks and recommend improvements to payroll systems and processes for enhancing compliance and financial reporting accuracy.
- Analyze payroll costs, including overtime, bonuses, and deductions, to ensure budgetary and reporting compliance and accuracy.
- Guide the People & Culture and Finance teams on payroll compliance issues and financial reporting requirements.
- Assist in developing and updating policies and procedures related to payroll compliance, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory changes.
- Prepare and reconcile vacation and banked time reports.
- Reconcile invoices against payroll deductions.
- Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS), including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply with, and promote the Company Safety Policy.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in financial analysis or payroll compliance.
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax law, and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in financial and payroll software.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Prior airline experience is an asset.
