About the Role

Research, design, and develop electrical systems for a next-generation critical infrastructure product, focusing on the full power chain from automatic transfer switches to motor controllers and overall electrical safety. This role involves maturing the product from concept through production in a standardized, scalable, and reliable manner.

Responsibilities

  • Design the complete electrical architecture of the product, including dual-feed 3-phase power input, automatic transfer switch, disconnect switches, branch circuit protection, and motor breakers.
  • Select and coordinate protective devices for high-fault-current environments.
  • Research, select, integrate, and validate electrical systems for production and serviceability.
  • Design redundant control power supplies, precision power metering, and a spill-protected electrical panel.
  • Own the electrical safety design of the product, including protective device selection and coordination, grounding, and bonding.
  • Drive global product safety and EMC compliance.
  • Ensure designs conform to applicable electrical codes and standards and drive required product certifications.
  • Support electrical DFMEA/risk assessments and design reviews.
  • Develop electrical designs as standard, repeatable products.
  • Mature the design through structured prototype phases.
  • Collaborate with different disciplines and represent electrical design in technical reviews.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience designing industrial or mission-critical electrical systems.
  • Proven experience in designing industrial automation electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience taking a product through regulatory requirements for global markets.
  • Demonstrated experience with engineering change management, BOM and drawing release, and configuration control within a formal product development lifecycle.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing electrical panels including load analysis.

  • Power quality and rotating machines standards (IEEE 519, NEMA MG 1, IEC 60034)
  • Workplace and arc-flash safety standards (NFPA 70E, CSA Z462)
  • HVAC and energy efficiency standards (ASHRAE 90.1, AHRI ratings)
  • Ability to simplify complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide clear recommendations.
  • A product mindset — designing for repeatability, reliability, and scale, with the discipline to follow standard documentation and release processes.
  • An ability to communicate openly and authentically in all situations.
