About the Role

Responsible for maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for all individuals on hospital property. This role involves protecting grounds and off-site buildings, ensuring the safety of employees, visitors, and patients, and may require Armed Security Officers to obtain Public Act 330 certification for arrest powers.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus on foot and in vehicle, offering assistance and observing for suspicious activities and security violations.
• Accept and perform duties at assigned post, enforcing hospital rules, regulations, and policies.
• Monitor phones, alarms, cameras, and radio traffic in the Security Operations Center.
• Provide statistical safety and security reporting to internal customers and senior management.
• Complete assigned or self-generated reports and logs daily on all activities, irregularities, and investigations.
• Investigate suspected crimes on hospital grounds and off-site locations, preparing reports and cooperating with law enforcement.
• Provide security escorts and assistance to employees, visitors, or patients as needed.
• Respond to routine inquiries and direct visitors, preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas.
• Utilize non-violent verbal de-escalation skills to neutralize volatile situations.
• Assist nursing staff with physical management/restraint of patients as ordered by a physician.
• Use defensive tactics and approved force continuum if necessary to safeguard lives.
• May be required to possess, carry, and utilize Electronic Weapons, tasers, and other weapons.
• May provide CPR/first aid in the event of a medical emergency until trained medical staff arrive.
• Assist Emergency Department staff with Hazmat/Decontamination procedures.
• Report and respond to incidents of fire and/or safety hazards.
• Inspect firefighting apparatus and extinguishers; assist with fire, disaster, and other emergency drills.
• Release patient remains to appropriate agencies or funeral homes.
• Utilize Police Authority to arrest for felonies and misdemeanors on Corewell Health Property under Michigan Law (PA 330).
• Utilize citation/ticket writing and ordinance enforcement authority under Michigan Law (PA 330) and local city ordinances.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two to three years’ law-enforcement related work experience (police officer, hospital security, corporate security, reserve police officer, or military police).
• Ability to take charge and direct others in emergencies or other dangerous incidents.
• Requires approval and authorization by the Director for Electronic Control Devices (ECD) use.
• Requires a current Carry Pistol License (CPL) license.
• Requires successful completion of the specialized Taser Training Course.
• State of Michigan Driver's License Upon Hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA certification within 90 Days.
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification within 90 Days.
• First Aid - AHA certification within 90 Days.
