About the Role

Performs professional accounting work involving the recording, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting of departmental revenues. Ensures revenues are accurately recorded in accordance with applicable accounting principles, policies, and governmental regulations. Maintains the integrity of financial records, prepares required reports, reconciles accounts, and supports audits while ensuring compliance with state and local requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of revenues and the laws under which they are collected.
  • Stay informed of legislative, county-wide, and departmental office changes.
  • Ensure reporting compliance with Local Government Code (LGC) for reporting revenues collected to Commissioners Court.
  • Maintain monthly revenue report forms and remittance forms for departments.
  • Assist with posting settlement runs for accounts payable and payroll.
  • Assist in balancing and reconciling Debt Service, Investments, Property Tax, and Drainage District No. 3 revenue accounts and financial records.
  • Assist in reviewing the Prison Contract to ensure accurate billing, receivables, payments, and compliance with contract terms.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and review the monthly proof of cash for each department.
  • Prepare journal entries for posting revenues after reviewing monthly revenue reports and reconciling advance remittances to the ledgers.
  • Ensure internal audit and County Auditor are immediately informed of unaccounted for variances, losses, shortages, or thefts of funds or property, and repetitive mistakes.
  • Approve the quarterly state comptroller’s report for payment by wire transfers.
  • Perform special research projects and reports as requested.
  • Assist with preparation of Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), as needed.
  • Participate in divisional staff meetings and departmental staff meetings.
  • Serve as back up for the Revenue/Veterans Cemetery Accountant and Revenue/ Cash Manager Supervisor.
  • Assist on other duties as required.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles relating to single and double entry accounting systems and financial reports.
  • Ability to gather and analyze complex information and to formulate concise understandable reports.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting processes.
  • Ability to operate calculator, word processor, spreadsheet, data base, PowerPoint, and/or other computer software.
  • Ability to perform accurate work under time constraints and pressure.
  • Ability to utilize computer for analysis and development of historical trends, informational reports and forecasts.
  • Ability to effectively complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and exercise independent judgement.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and officials and with the public.
  • Regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or feel.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
