About the Role

Provides quality healthcare in collaboration with other health care providers in the emergency department (ED).

Responsibilities

• Performs the entire patient care continuum of urgent care and acute patients in the Emergency Department, including initial assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostics, exercising treatment algorithms, and arranging for appropriate disposition.
• Utilizes available physician resources appropriately and demonstrates high confidence in treating patients.
• Looks for opportunities to grow skillset with the goal of improving autonomy.
• Provides primary patient care, including review of lab/x-ray reports, medication refills, patient referral, patient education, and health maintenance and symptom management for acute and chronic diseases.
• Serves in an educator role for staff RNs, LPNs, and student FNPs/PAs as needed.
• Serves in a management/administrative/organizational role, including attending meetings, maintaining schedules, and participating in monthly committees to improve patient care.
• Assists in the screening/evaluation process for prospective employees, staffing, and management.
• Assists in the development of policies and procedures for clinical areas, conforming to JCAHO, regulatory agencies, and PHS/EH.
• Participates in data collection and quality management activities.
• Participates in Midlevel Education Committee trainings for ongoing skill maintenance and improvement.
• Uses available data to drive ongoing professional practice improvement.
• Is willing to receive and assimilate feedback from all levels of staff/providers (coachable).
• Actively participates in piloting improvement projects, organizational initiatives, team building exercises, section meetings, and semi-annual provider reviews.
• Maintains patient medical records as required by hospital and regulatory agencies.
• Looks for opportunities to increase accuracy and pertinent information capture.
• Is willing to assimilate feedback related to documentation and coding for appropriate billing capture.
• Participates in one monthly call shift.
• Performs other functions as required.

Requirements

• For Nurse Practitioner - Masters degree in Nursing, New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license and ANCC certification required.
• For Physician Assistant - Baccalaureate prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant, and licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners required.
• Maintains patient medical records as required by hospital and regulatory agencies.
• Willingness to assimilate feedback related to Documentation and Coding for appropriate billing capture.
• Willingness to receive and assimilate feedback from all levels of staff/providers (coachable).
