About the Role
The Director, Interest-Bearing Deposits, is responsible for comprehensive oversight and management of RBC's interest-bearing deposit product portfolio. This role directly supports core objectives to optimize interest margins, maximize market share, and drive profitability. You will serve as the primary product owner and thought leader, ensuring all deposit products are strategically positioned, competitively priced, and aligned with Commercial Banking strategies while maintaining rigorous risk and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive product vision, strategy, and roadmap; enhance capabilities and recommend features aligned with business needs, client requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Lead commercialization and go-to-market strategy while partnering with other product owners to ensure consistent client experience across BDLM and RBC's broader suite.
- Monitor market trends and act as a thought leader in competitive positioning.
- Recommend rate setting for assigned administered products and manage pricing within delegated authorities; analyze volume and interest rate dimensions to drive competitive strategy, achieve spreads/revenue targets, and inform pricing discipline.
- Approve pricing exceptions within delegated limits for key client deals and escalate policy exceptions for strategic deals.
- Collaborate on broader pricing initiatives and total relationship pricing strategies.
- Own P&L and compliance accountability for the interest-bearing deposit portfolio.
- Develop acquisition strategies to grow deposit market share and establish robust reporting to track balance growth, client retention, and spreads.
- Support annual business plans in collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and Business Segment.
- Manage budget for product-related projects and initiatives as approved by the Commercial Banking Investment Review Board.
- Manage Annual Portfolio Distribution exercises with Corporate Treasury to optimize portfolio performance, revenue growth and support strategic decision-making.
- Manage interest-bearing deposit products through their complete lifecycle with adequate risk assessment and control measures, overseeing end-to-end delivery including sales channels and customer service.
- Develop and maintain policies ensuring compliance with evolving regulations (AML, industry standards); lead continuous improvement initiatives for cost efficiency and quality.
- Maintain strong relationships and influence across all teams to coordinate product compliance, market initiatives and create product-related marketing materials and collateral.
Requirements
- Finance or Business degree
- Minimum 5-10 years of combined experience in product management, product development, and lifecycle management
- Minimum 3-5 years of specialized experience in deposits product management and/or deposit transfer pricing
- Proven track record in building, launching, and managing product portfolios and roadmaps
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated P&L management experience in financial institutions, knowledge of funds transfer pricing
- Strong analytical skills with expertise in deposit pricing, volume analysis, and interest rate dynamics
- Proven experience in product design, market analysis, and competitive positioning
- Understanding of business and corporate liquidity management, cash flow management, and payment processing
- Strong understanding of relevant risk identification and mitigation strategies
- Solid working knowledge of desktop software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- People leadership experience with proven ability to build and develop high-performing teams
- MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree
- Accounting or Finance certification
- Experience in go-to-market and commercialization execution
- Experience with wholesale, corporate, commercial, or SME business clients
