About the Role

Human Computer Lab is developing character robots that are alive and responsive, starting with LeLamp, a robot that explores a new category of consumer robotics where everyday objects become interactive. The goal is to advance human-robot interaction by creating technology that is legible, emotionally intuitive, and human-centered, laying the groundwork for a new generation of robots for everyday environments.

Responsibilities

  • Source, qualify, and manage relationships with component suppliers, distributors, and contract manufacturers (CMs).
  • Own BOM cost, lead-time, and availability tracking across mechanical and electrical subsystems.
  • Partner with EE/ME teams on design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) reviews.
  • Manage procurement and purchase orders, balancing cost, lead time, and inventory risk.
  • Identify and mitigate component obsolescence and single-source risk across the BOM.
  • Coordinate with overseas and domestic manufacturing partners on quoting, tooling, and production timelines.
  • Support incoming quality inspection and work with suppliers to resolve nonconformances.
  • Track and forecast inventory needs as build volumes scale.
  • Help build and refine internal processes (PO workflows, supplier scorecards, inventory systems).
  • Assess supply chain contingencies and develop backup plans to ensure reliability.
  • Ensure raw materials and production processes meet product standards and maintain high-quality supplier relations.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or hold a degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or have equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience sourcing electrical or mechanical components.
  • Comfortable reading BOMs, schematics, and mechanical drawings to facilitate informed sourcing conversations.
  • Clear communication with suppliers and internal teams, including documenting decisions and trade-offs.
  • Some exposure to contract manufacturing, PCBA assembly, or hardware production workflows.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-changing environments where processes are still being built.
  • Hands-on experience working directly with suppliers or CMs (quoting, negotiating, expediting, resolving issues).
  • Understanding of cost and lead-time trade-offs in component selection, with the ability to challenge engineering choices.
  • Experience with international manufacturing partners and understanding of logistics and import considerations.
  • Ability to move quickly through iteration cycles and make progress without perfect information.
  • Takes ownership of work end to end.
  • Works well in small, collaborative teams where supply chain, electrical, and mechanical functions are in constant communication.
  • Cares about enabling the supply chain to deliver expressive, reliable hardware faster.
