About the Role
Assists the Nurse Manager in coordinating nursing care on a shift within a specific unit, including the supervision of nursing activities related to patient care. Adheres to the standards, objectives, and policies of the Department of Nursing and the Hospital Center.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and employees.
- Contribute to and participate in Performance/Quality Improvement activities.
- Administer nursing care based on scientific and therapeutic principles and physician's orders.
- Demonstrate a competent level of technical skill.
- Coordinate the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients.
- Coordinate staff activities in the performance of the nursing process.
- Ensure patient needs are met through appropriate personnel assignment.
- Assist staff in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing process.
- Participate in the Patient Classification system.
- Participate in patient care conferences.
- Review and analyze trends pertinent to nursing care delivery and recommend innovations.
- Evaluate current and changing needs of the nursing unit and make recommendations to the Nurse Manager.
- Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of alternative approaches to nursing care delivery.
- Participate in relevant conferences and seminars.
- Provide care based on age-specific needs and criteria, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Identify age-specific characteristics and modify approaches based on age-specific needs.
- Use age-appropriate communication techniques.
- Assist nursing staff in developing their nursing performance by assessing needs and providing guidance.
- Provide input to the Nurse Manager in the staff evaluation process.
- Provide feedback and documentation to nursing staff regarding adherence to job obligations.
- Recommend the progression of new employees through orientation phases.
- Assist in preparing time schedules.
- Assist in daily staffing by recommending staff or supplemental coverage.
- Make recommendations regarding personal schedule to meet position responsibilities.
- Identify needs to clerical staff.
- Recommend changes in nursing practice and policy.
- Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the Department of Nursing and the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.
- Maintain patient/employee confidentiality.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to maintain adequate material resources.
- Verify equipment safety and utilization.
- Assess supply utilization.
- Supervise personnel in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
- Collaborate with educators and staff in meeting patient and unit needs.
- Promote inter and intra departmental communications for continuity of patient care.
- Participate in departmental committees.
- Utilize learning resources.
- Participate in the development of other staff members.
- Meet regulatory licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
- Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude towards patients, families, and staff.
- Display courtesy, tact, and patience in all interactions.
- Project a professional image through behavior, grooming, and attire.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

Experience Level
- Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience preferred.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s in Nursing or related field
- NYS Registered Professional Nurse License
