About the Role
The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store, ensuring adherence to company policies, supervising staff, maximizing profits, and maintaining high standards of customer service and store appearance.
Responsibilities
- Maximize store profitability by managing controllable expenses, optimizing revenue streams, and leading a high-performing team.
- Ensure guest and associate satisfaction, exceeding brand standards, and managing store profitability.
- Select, develop, and lead a highly engaged team.
- Cultivate a positive shopping experience for all guests, responding to complaints and soliciting feedback.
- Staff the store appropriately for 24/7 business demands and proactively identify hiring needs.
- Allocate resources, delegate work, and manage time through efficient scheduling and labor hour usage.
- Conduct management training and oversee associate training to ensure proficiency and job safety.
- Create and sustain an inclusive store atmosphere by understanding team diversity and promoting mutual respect.
- Value store associates through celebration and recognition.
- Support associate and store management development through talent management processes.
- Provide overall direction and support for the team, monitoring individual work, providing feedback, coaching, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Ensure store conditions meet or exceed standards for safety, service, and operational efficiency.
- Adhere to work designs and implement improvement actions.
- Manage all safety programs and ensure proper execution and compliance.
- Report and document guest and associate incidents within the appropriate timeframe.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, local laws, and company policies and procedures.
- Lead change initiatives, champion programs, and educate associates on the need for change.
- Meet or exceed key performance metric targets and deliver budgeted merchandise gross profit.
- Maintain awareness of financial performance trends to achieve store profitability.
- Monitor shift cash handling and inventory, assisting with investigations of shortages/overages.
- Manage financial plans for the store by reviewing financial reports and taking appropriate action.
- Analyze income statements and utilize reports to ensure store profitability.
- Manage inventory to maximize sales, control costs, and reduce waste.
- Manage cash management procedures, including bank deposits and change orders.
- Conduct competition surveys.
- Analyze audit results and trends and take appropriate action to address issues.
- Build relationships with community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to perform repetitive physical behaviors including standing, walking, handling, reaching, grasping, pushing buttons, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, and stooping.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Skills
- Leadership experience in a fast-paced retail, food service or fuel environment preferred.
- Experience selecting, training, and managing staff.
- Experience with labor allocation, sales building, scheduling, and managing expenses.
- Experience coaching and developing team members through proper leadership skills.
