About the Role
Qrypt is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to lead the design and development of backend software, primarily in Rust, that handles quantum entropy and keys, powers our entropy-as-a-service platform, and ensures reliable and secure operation at scale. This role involves using AI-assisted development tooling and shaping the team's AI-native engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and testing of backend services and APIs, primarily in Rust, with some C++ and Python.
- Own significant parts of the backend end to end: architecture, implementation, reliability, and performance.
- Make and document design tradeoffs; raise the bar on code quality, testing, and review across the team.
- Work close to the metal on the software that delivers quantum entropy and keys reliably and securely.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic development tooling to accelerate work while owning the correctness and quality of shipped code.
- Help shape how the team adopts AI-assisted development as the tooling matures.
- Develop deep domain understanding (quantum random number generation, cryptography, network security) to architect and validate products.
- Mentor other engineers and collaborate across hardware, product, and engineering to ship end-to-end solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, and/or relevant work experience.
- 6+ years building and shipping backend software, including ownership of services end to end.
- Expertise in Rust, or deep systems-programming experience (C, C++, Go) with a demonstrated ability to work primarily in Rust at a senior level.
- Working proficiency with C++ and Python.
- Strong command of backend architecture: APIs, services, concurrency, reliability, performance, and Linux.
- Fluency with AI and agent-assisted development, and the judgment to apply it where it adds real leverage.
- A track record of technical leadership: design decisions, mentoring, and raising engineering standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
