About the Role

River Markets is building the prime brokerage and execution layer for prediction markets, providing the infrastructure professional and institutional traders need to access, trade, and manage risk across venues at scale. As the founding financial operations leader, you will build and own the finance function for our FCM, serve as an NFA-listed principal subject to approval, and work directly with founders, engineers, counsel, auditors, and advisers.

Responsibilities

  • Own daily customer-funds segregation and secured-amount calculations, residual-interest monitoring, and capital, liquidity, customer-balance, and bank-balance controls.
  • Prepare and oversee NFA and CFTC filings, including daily segregation reports, Form 1-FR-FCM, bi-monthly SIDR and recurring financial submissions.
  • Build an audit-ready control environment with reconciliations, approvals, exception management, evidence retention, and clear operating procedures.
  • Own the general ledger, month-end close, treasury, and banking operations, working with external accountants, auditors, and depositories.
  • Translate finance and regulatory requirements into systems and automate reconciliations, reporting, controls, and data pipelines with engineering.

Requirements

  • By month 1, map every finance and regulatory workflow, define owners and controls, and identify system gaps.
  • By month 3, own the operating calendar for segregation, capital, treasury, close, and reporting.
  • By month 6, run an accurate, audit-ready finance function that recovers cleanly from control or data-feed failures.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience at an NFA-regulated entity, such as an FCM, introducing broker, swap dealer, or DCM.
  • Direct experience with customer-fund segregation, residual interest, regulatory capital, or NFA/CFTC reporting, plus familiarity with WinJammer and the NFA's online systems.
  • Strong accounting and financial operations fundamentals, including general-ledger ownership, reconciliations, close, and audit readiness.
  • A control mindset: validate numbers, investigate breaks, document decisions, and never let unexplained differences roll forward.
  • Ability to translate regulatory and accounting requirements into precise data and system requirements for engineers.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, honest, and calm under pressure; able to lead across finance, compliance, legal, banking, and engineering with minimal oversight.
  • Experience helping launch, register, or materially expand an FCM or other regulated market intermediary.
  • Experience with institutional brokerage, crypto market infrastructure, or a technology-forward FCM.
  • Experience managing external accountants, auditors, banks, or regulatory examinations.

About the Company

  • River Markets is building the prime brokerage and execution layer for prediction markets: the infrastructure professional and institutional traders need to access, trade, and manage risk across venues such as Kalshi and Polymarket US at scale.
  • We started as two quants from HFT and hedge funds who traded prediction markets at night and on weekends, saw that institutional traders lacked a proper execution and financing layer, and built it. Today, we are connected to three exchanges, run six proprietary execution algorithms, and serve paying trading firms.
  • We value ownership, speed, precision, and a high technical bar. We are building a highly automated FCM and do more with a small team than a traditional financial institution would think possible.
  • We use AI and automation across the company. For this role, automation must make the control environment stronger, not more opaque. We want someone who asks what can stop being done by hand, then designs the checks, documentation, and human review needed to trust the result.
