About the Role

As a Physical Therapy Assistant at Oneida Health's Outpatient Therapy office, you will work under the supervision and instruction of a qualified physical therapist, assisting with patient care tasks, setting up treatment areas and equipment, recording charges, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Candidates will receive on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for treatment and accompany them to treatment areas.
  • Set up and maintain physical therapy treatment areas and equipment.
  • Assist patients with exercise movements and changes in positions during treatment sessions.
  • Record charges for each patient's billing and enter data into the computer system.
  • Communicate regularly with appropriate staff regarding patient care and scheduling.
  • Assist patients with their maintenance programs as directed by the Physical Therapist.
  • Clean, repair, and maintain physical therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Help maintain inventory of physical therapy supplies and equipment.
  • Observe patients for safety and comfort, notifying the Physical Therapist or Assistant of any changes in condition.
  • Assist with restorative and rehabilitative treatments under the direction of the physical therapist or assistant.
  • Maintain treatment plan records within Medicare guidelines.
  • Assist with front desk tasks such as opening or closing the department, preparing schedules, answering phones, and maintaining business flow.
  • Maintain statistics of patients, visits, and charges.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures for the department.

Requirements

  • 2 years of healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility and physical exercises.
  • Stamina to perform tasks throughout the day.
  • Manual dexterity for handling equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks as needed in a healthcare environment.
