About the Role
Oneida Health is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to provide coverage in its Hospital Respiratory Therapy Department. This role involves assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing disorders, potentially including work in the Sleep Lab and Extended Care. The therapist will report to the Director of Respiratory Therapy and must be able to work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing patient safety and experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, inspect, clean, and test respiratory equipment.
- Understand and apply technical aspects of respiratory equipment in clinical settings.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions and disease management.
- Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition.
- Ensure availability and stock of respiratory care items, including transport oxygen tanks.
- Maintain accurate and complete records.
- Serve as a resource for Certified Therapists and ancillary staff.
Requirements
- Associate in Respiratory Therapy (Required)
- Registered or Registry eligible with The National Board for Respiratory Care (Required)
- New York RRT (Preferred)
- 1 year of experience in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
- Ability to stand, walk, and move about the facility.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of equipment, up to a specified weight limit.
- Fine motor skills for equipment manipulation.
- Visual and auditory acuity for patient assessment and equipment monitoring.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interaction with healthcare teams.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong organizational skills for accurate record-keeping and inventory management.
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
