About the Role
The Poultry Care Supervisor manages the day-to-day activities of Poultry Care Attendants, leading work functions in the care of pullets or layers. This includes assisting with bird moves, vaccinations, feeding, and overseeing the general well-being of the birds, as well as providing performance feedback to attendants.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and manage tasks for all Poultry Care Attendant direct reports, including time card approval.
- Monitor workers to ensure proper handling of layers and/or pullets.
- Check poultry housing systems (Feed, Lights, Air, Water, Sanitation, FLAWS) to ensure proper operation.
- Ensure procedures and processes related to poultry husbandry are followed.
- Monitor animal health and stay current on accepted practices and methods.
- Lead by example and identify opportunities for practice improvement.
- Identify safety improvement opportunities and inform the Safety Manager of potential hazards.
- Act as a team player, supporting and encouraging co-workers, and treating everyone with respect.
- Monitor mortality records and chore checklists for task completion, maintain up-to-date paperwork, and order supplies.
- Assist with bird weighing and moving birds when necessary, scheduling appropriate help.
- Assist in monitoring AEI/PMSI/Pulse control systems.
- Respond to alarms as needed.
- Assist in monitoring and controlling egg flow with processing.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
- Effective communication with management regarding production planning, farm and flock performance, animal health, and nutrition management.
- Strong organization skills.
- Comfortable with current technology, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong background in poultry care and animal management.
- Strong knowledge of animal welfare standards and biosecurity.
- General knowledge of regulations and standards for Safe Quality Foods, OSHA, HAACP, Eggland’s Best, FDA, Animal Care standards, and USDA.
- Uncompromised ethics and integrity.
