About the Role

This reporter will break consequential news about AI data center projects and their economics by engaging with leading data center developers, AI cloud providers, and their major customers. The role offers the chance to report on hardware choices, especially alternatives to Nvidia chips, and shifts in the supply and demand for cloud GPU servers. The reporter will also identify and report on the successes and challenges of data center projects, including delays, physical limitations, and cost overruns related to power, labor, regulation, and hardware, before they become widely known.

Responsibilities

  • Break news about the people, deals, and economics of AI data centers.
  • Write an AI infrastructure column with original reporting or analysis twice a month.
  • Cultivate source networks among data centers and large AI developers, utility providers, and infrastructure investors.
  • Partner with reporters across big tech, finance, and venture teams to connect infrastructure issues to broader shifts in capital markets.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of business, finance, or technology reporting experience.
  • Experience with AI infrastructure reporting.
  • A track record of scoop-driven journalism and source-building on a competitive beat.
  • Ability to work out of The Information’s San Francisco or New York office.
  • Eligible to live and work in the United States.
