About the Role

The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor provides leadership, training, scheduling, and supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and students functioning as Pharmacy Technicians across various pharmacy settings.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, train, and supervise Pharmacy Technicians and students.
  • Develop and maintain technician schedules and timekeeping.
  • Perform technician duties during high volume or staffing shortages.
  • Identify backlogs and make real-time staffing adjustments.
  • Evaluate technician performance and coordinate coaching, feedback, and corrective action.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Identify training and development needs and coordinate competency assessments, cross-training, orientation, and continuing education.
  • Resolve complex daily operational, staffing, and medication-related issues.
  • Oversee compounding of sterile and hazardous preparations.
  • Oversee controlled-substance handling, distribution, and reconciliation.
  • Supervise operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated dispensing cabinets, packaging systems, and related pharmacy technology.
  • Support medication inventory management.
  • Enforce departmental policies and applicable federal and state regulatory standards.
  • Maintain documentation required by the State Board of Pharmacy, the health system, and accrediting organizations.
  • Ensure audit, accreditation, and inspection readiness.
  • Participate in quality-improvement and medication-safety activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year of pharmacy technician experience.
  • Associate's degree (preferred).
  • Two or more years of experience in a hospital or health-system pharmacy (preferred).
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience in a pharmacy setting (preferred).
  • Experience across both inpatient and outpatient/ambulatory pharmacy operations (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication distribution, inventory management, and applicable federal and state regulatory requirements (preferred).
  • Proficiency with pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing systems, IV workflow technology, and Epic or similar systems (preferred).
  • Sterile compounding (USP <797>) and/or hazardous drug handling (USP <800>) experience (preferred).
