About the Role

The Weekend Letter Carrier Supervisor oversees a weekend team of part-time parcel carriers and permanent flexible employees, ensuring proper procedures are followed in handling and delivering parcels, relay bags, and managing collected funds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and review daily activities of a work unit to ensure efficient sorting, routing, and delivery of mail.
  • Establish schedules and determine if additional relief staff is needed, authorizing overtime as required.
  • Regularly check the performance and appearance of delivery employees on route.
  • Measure delivery distances to new and existing delivery points to ensure delivery service requirements are met.
  • Propose solutions or changes to delivery routes and discuss changes with route measurement agents.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes for bag supply and relay points to ensure routes are well-serviced and transport costs are minimized.
  • Supervise, coach, guide, and direct employees.
  • Train new employees on their various responsibilities and teach them new methods and procedures.
  • Resolve personnel issues and consult with the Labour Relations group or union representatives regarding the application of collective agreement terms.
  • Discuss various issues and changes with union stewards, including safety, overtime, and route evaluation, and attempt to resolve complaints before a grievance is filed.
  • Promote and enforce health and safety programs and processes for the assigned team.
  • Take necessary corrective action to rectify unsafe working conditions.
  • Enter employee, volume, and addressing data into the Company's systems.
  • Prepare reports to monitor performance, identify improvements, control operating costs, and achieve objectives.
  • Liaise with other supervisors and facilitators to ensure effective coordination of operations and resolve operational issues.
  • Report building, operational equipment, and property repairs to the manager.
  • Monitor the situation, follow up with the appropriate third party, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain good public relations with mail delivery customers.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ensure the customer experience is a priority.
  • Investigate delivery obstacles when a customer fails to meet necessary safety conditions.
  • Report the issue to the customer for resolution or make other arrangements until the unsafe condition is resolved.
  • Take action to suspend delivery if the issue cannot be resolved.
  • Perform other related duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (equivalent experience may be accepted).
  • At least one year of team management experience OR at least two years of experience in a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., understand the main functions of each software application).
  • Possess a valid permanent driver's license (not a graduated or temporary license).
  • Have a satisfactory safe driving record under the current CPC safe driving program, including criteria for traffic violations, demerit points, and license suspensions/prohibitions within the last three years.
  • Essential English language proficiency.
