About the Role
An Activity Sponsor supervises and supports extracurricular clubs, mentoring students, overseeing activities, and ensuring safe and organized events. This role promotes student engagement and development by working with students, faculty, and administration.
Responsibilities
- Regularly clean, maintain, and perform minor repairs on all percussion equipment.
- Provide specialized music instruction for Marching Percussion and Concert Band(s).
- Assist in the design and planning of the Marching Field Show.
- Operate the Electronic Sound System and PA, programming sampled sounds to enhance the Front Ensemble.
- Teach and coordinate both the Front Ensemble and Drum Line.
- Write music and arrangements for the Front Ensemble and Drum Line as needed.
- Collaborate with the Sound-Scaping technician to optimize the percussion's full sound.
- Attend and teach weekly Spring Marching Percussion sections from March to May.
- Rehearse percussion students during a 3-week Marching Camp in July.
- Rehearse percussion students on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3 pm to 6 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am to 4:30 pm, August through December.
- Work closely with the Band Parent Organization to transport all percussion equipment to and from events.
- Attend weekly rehearsals during the day to work with Symphonic and Wind Ensemble Percussion classes in the first and second semesters.
- Prepare percussion chamber ensembles for Spring Concerts, Concert Festivals, and Solo & Ensemble events.
- Assist in recruiting and building the percussion sections.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- High School or Equivalent education.
- Education or advanced training relevant to the club/activity is strongly desired.
Skills
- Verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborative team player.
- Maintains a generally positive attitude.
