About the Role

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in providing safe, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care across various pharmacy settings, including acute, community, ambulatory, and specialty. This float/coverage position involves working various shifts and covering different areas within the hospital, such as the OR, IV room, and Central pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with all phases of pharmacy services under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Answers phones and provides excellent customer service.
  • Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and patient information and maintaining records.
  • Utilizes pharmacy technology to prepare medication orders, performs calculations, and compounds medications.
  • Obtains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks from pharmacists.
  • Accurately fills and maintains medication supplies, including monitoring controlled substance inventories.
  • Packages and labels medications accurately to minimize waste.
  • Ensures pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Communicates with caregivers regarding responsibilities and concerns, and participates in quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, contributing ideas for improvement.
  • Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health.
  • Delivers detail-oriented, consistent, flexible care and completes advanced tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent is required.
  • Current pharmacy technician certification and/or license applicable to state of practice.
  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Competent in understanding and usage of computers and software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google.
  • Ability to learn new applications relevant to the position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification as appropriate to practice site.
  • Carrying, hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, climbing, crawling, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, walking as needed to perform job duties.
