About the Role

The After-School Support Facilitator provides planning and program support for the Get Moving! Program, focusing on healthy active living for children aged 6 to 12. The program aims to improve health outcomes for newcomer children and youth through physical activity, healthy eating, and wellness education, supplemented by homework assistance, excursions, and arts-based activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead staff in planning and developing culturally sensitive activities appropriate for children's development.
  • Assist lead staff in planning and supervising field trips/outings.
  • Attend to the physical and emotional needs of each participant.
  • Supervise participants at all times and respond to emergencies.
  • Collaborate with agency staff and community partners on program activities.
  • Liaise with parents regarding program information and concerns.
  • Ensure understanding of program schedule, plans, and requirements.
  • Prepare for programs/activities, purchase supplies, and manage setup/cleanup.
  • Support the preparation and serving of nutritional snacks.
  • Assist with program outreach activities.
  • Participate in required NYCH trainings and meetings.
  • Provide additional support and duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of, or working towards post-secondary education in health, education, psychology, social work, or a related field, and/or comparable work experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Must be available to work weekdays between 1:30 pm and 6:00 pm.
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience facilitating programs for school-aged children, including homework help, creative arts, and sports/physical activities.
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultures within an anti-discriminatory framework.
  • Experience facilitating virtual programs with online learning tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Successful clearance of criminal record verification will be required.
  • Candidates will be asked to declare their vaccination status and provide proof.

  • A second language is an asset.
