About the Role
This is an entry-level position in commercial construction estimating, offering the opportunity to learn the bid process from start to finish under the guidance of senior estimators and project managers. The role focuses initially on quantity takeoffs and pricing, with increasing responsibility as experience is gained. This is intended as a career-building role, not a temporary position.
Responsibilities
- Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications across multiple interior trades.
- Assist senior estimators in assembling cost estimates for labor, material, and equipment.
- Request and track quotes from vendors and suppliers; organize pricing for comparison.
- Review plans and specs to identify scope, exclusions, and items requiring clarification.
- Maintain the bid calendar, log invitations to bid, and keep bid files organized and current.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks; take notes and track open items.
- Support the handoff to project management once a job is awarded.
Requirements
- 1+ years of estimating, takeoff, or construction experience.
- Field experience in interior trades, an internship, or a degree in construction management, building science, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, or a demonstrated ability to learn quickly.
- Solid math skills and comfort working in Excel.
- Attention to detail.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Willingness to ask questions and take direction.
