About the Role
The District Sales Manager (DSM) role requires exceptional management of sales representative performance, focusing on coaching and developing sales representatives to achieve profitable growth.
Responsibilities
- Drive a culture of high performance.
- Coach and develop sales representatives to achieve profitable planned case and gross profit growth.
- Conduct one-on-one coaching and direction meetings with each sales representative 3-5 times per week.
- Lead and facilitate district meetings that educate, inspire, and drive fundamental behavior changes that drive sales.
- Reinforce success metrics for the team and provide a vision of continuous improvement and success in your territory.
- Emphasize and demonstrate a continuous improvement mentality around technology, sales skills, soft skills, and product knowledge.
- Leverage Sales Support resources and tools to maximize the consultative time and process of the sales representative.
- Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to drive sales representative development of consultative selling skills.
- Utilize sales data tools to access results, plan, and execute on data-driven needs.
- Fully leverage CRM (Zoho) in managing sales representative's sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement.
- Conduct and document 30/60/90-day reviews with sales representatives.
- Champion company initiatives and implement strategies within your district.
- Prioritize independent relationships with top customers and high-value potential customers.
- Conduct efficient Business Reviews that drive better connectivity with Nicholas and the success of their business needs.
- Perform additional sales management responsibilities including operational duties and customer relationship management.
Requirements
- At least 2 years' experience growing profitable sales in food service or similar industry.
- Previous experience as a Sales Representative or Sales Manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets.
- Previous experience working with transportation departments and the ability to train sales representatives how to manage deliveries.
- Previous experience evaluating market trends and recommending products to customers based on business needs and goals.
- Previous experience in reviewing and analyzing daily and weekly reports such as special-order requests, customer bid process, and sales/gross profit margin data.
- Previous experience prospecting new business, penetrating existing accounts, and minimizing lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and particular objectives within assigned territory.
- Enthusiasm for participating in ongoing training sessions.
- Ability to attend and participate in general sales and district meetings.
- Ability to answer customers’ questions about products, prices, availability, and product use.
- Ability to project manage opportunities and initiatives strategically from beginning to end.
- Ability to participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and customer events.
- Ability to research customer business needs and develop a mix of products and service to meet needs.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems during the order process (i.e., out of stock items, special order items, low inventory, etc.).
- Previous experience working directly with credit departments and ability to train sales representatives to communicate and collect receivable when necessary.
- Ability to perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records, processing credits and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.
- Understanding of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ products, prices, and sales.
- Ability to share information with customers as part of value-added services and train sales representatives to do the same.
- Must be able to perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely with or without accommodation.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, as well as state, federal and safety regulations.
