About the Role
At Soho House, a Pastry Cook I collaborates with the Pastry Chef to create, craft, and develop simple, rustic, approachable, yet memorable desserts, pastries, or other sweet goods. This role is responsible for all aspects of the Pastry Kitchen, including prepping, production, a-la-carte, and COGS. A successful Pastry Cook I is efficient, effective, and experienced in executing high-quality treats, tastes, and recipes, making them a critical member of the team.
Responsibilities
- Prepare delicious, house-made pastries following recipes.
- Contribute creatively and work autonomously on all pastry stations.
- Deliver a-la-carte or production-based pastries in a fast-paced environment.
- Support the Pastry Chef with inventory and maintaining optimal performance.
- Maintain sustainable food cost, wastage, oven temperatures, and quality.
- Educate line staff on COGS and its contribution to profit and loss.
- Supervise Pastry Prep Cook(s), including onboarding and on-the-job training.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, including IIPP, worker's comp, and allergy procedures.
- Implement, monitor, and enforce compliance with all Company policies, procedures, standards, and applicable laws.
- Demonstrate precise attention to detail in creating a-la-carte dishes and family meals.
- Assist the Pastry Chef with end-of-shift reports and handover sheets.
- Maintain company target goals and consistent service experience for Soho House Standards.
- Serve as a positive influence for teams under pressure.
- Provide a welcoming work environment to increase staff morale.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced, upscale, and approachable professional environment.
- Strong understanding of making pastry dishes from scratch.
- Proven ability to execute all menu items and prepare top-quality dishes on all stations.
- Possess a Food Handler's certificate.
- Strong communicator, able to take direction, a team player, and a motivator.
- Proactive ability to build professional relationships with leaders and the kitchen team.
- Arrive to work prior to scheduled start to ensure adequate time for preparation and briefing.
- Flexible schedule with availability to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Possess creativity to develop recipes from scratch.
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
- Must be able to work on feet for at least 8 hours.
- Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 40 pounds.
- Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
