About the Role

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is seeking a Head Electrician to lead and support theatrical lighting and electrics for presentations at the Harvey Theater. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration, and a significant background in theatrical electrics to ensure safe and high-quality productions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stagehands, production management, and visiting companies and designers to present performances.
  • Lead, assign, and supervise electrics crews while performing work assignments.
  • Identify crewing needs and ensure crew qualifications and competencies.
  • Work with Crew Chief and Production Staff to ensure a diverse and equitable workforce.
  • Enforce safe operational standards for electrics and lighting.
  • Support visiting lighting designers in preparing, hanging, focusing, and programming light plots.
  • Create necessary paperwork for stage work, including Lightwright files, channeling, plot preparation, rental lists, equipment purchases, and expendables.
  • Represent the Electrics Department in production meetings.
  • Perform lighting and electrical maintenance within the Harvey Theater.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in lighting and electrical stage work.
  • Advanced knowledge of theatrical and scenic lighting, including interpreting technical drawings and executing installation, operation, maintenance, and strike plans.
  • Experience supporting produced theater as a production electrician, working with lighting designers through plot development, execution, and adjustments.
  • Advanced knowledge of theatrical and arena lighting, including troubleshooting and operating light boards, lighting systems, and equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and web search tools.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, stand for extended periods, and lift/carry equipment up to 50 pounds with team assistance.
  • ETCP Entertainment Theater and Arena Electric Certification within 364 days of hire.
  • Must join IATSE Local 4 if not currently a member.
  • Completed at least 1 year of continuous, active service in current position (for internal applicants).
  • Satisfactory performance without corrective actions in the last 12 months (for internal applicants).
