About the Role
STERIS is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive revenue growth and profitability for its Instrument Processing division in the South region. This role involves identifying and securing new business opportunities through bid and tender management, building strong customer relationships, and expanding into broader healthcare services.
Responsibilities
- Lead revenue growth and profitability across the South region.
- Identify, develop, and secure new and repeat business opportunities through successful bid and tender management.
- Proactively develop existing and target markets.
- Build strong customer relationships.
- Drive contract acquisition across the South of the country.
- Identify emerging opportunities and shape winning commercial propositions.
- Strengthen STERIS's position as a trusted partner within the healthcare sector.
- Collaborate with colleagues across international territories to contribute to wider business objectives.
- Identify, target, and develop new business opportunities.
- Design and implement marketing and business development strategies to encourage outsourcing by future customers.
- Assist target customers with their outsourcing strategy and plans.
- Support the Commercial Director EMEA and senior operational management with strategy development and implementation.
- Craft and develop strategies to promote business growth through existing and new opportunities.
- Work with suppliers, customers, partners, and stakeholders to develop new business opportunities.
- Support the development of business partner relationships, including commercial terms, tenders, and development products.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant National Guidance, Standards, and Regulations relating to Decontamination and Sterilisation in the UK.
- Hold membership of key bodies and institutes, and attend relevant conferences and educational events.
- Review systems and procedures for identifying advertised tenders for healthcare services and respond to relevant opportunities.
- Research, draft, and submit proposals to tenders, including necessary analysis.
- Support pre- and post-tender submission processes with presentation materials and Q&A responses.
- Maintain a robust system for managing bid submissions, models, documentation, and customer relationship management.
- Support workstreams post-preferred bidder status to secure contract agreement and signature.
- Review financial and operational data and customer satisfaction post-implementation to ensure anticipated outcomes are achieved.
- Develop and nurture networks and relationships with customers, prospective customers, colleagues, and advisors.
- Regularly review financial and operational KPIs and customer satisfaction for key accounts.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure ongoing delivery of service excellence.
- Establish and maintain a thorough understanding of the competitive environments.
- Contribute to the business unit’s strategic plan with market knowledge and analysis.
- Analyze and maintain knowledge of market size and trends for the UK & Ireland region.
- Maintain and develop the forward order book and bid pipeline.
- Design, develop, and implement marketing and PR campaigns to promote the STERIS IP brand.
- Network and lobby to promote understanding of the service and value proposition.
- Align marketing and PR activities with customer requirements and outcomes.
- Develop Commercial Price P&Ls for indicative customer quotes, tenders, and service agreement changes.
- Develop econometric models to support strategy development and decision-making.
- Develop working models and analysis of actual operational data for managers.
- Support the Finance department with the development of product and customer profitability analysis.
- Develop and refine pricing strategies and policies.
Requirements
- Strong track record of business development in an outsourcing environment.
- Proven experience in relationship management, account development, and securing contracts within a demanding/complex outsourced services environment.
- Excellent leadership and influencing skills.
- First-class presentation skills.
- First-class interpersonal skills; able to act as an Ambassador for STERIS externally.
- Thorough practical understanding of EU and other NHS tendering and procurement processes.
- Understanding of the UK healthcare system.
- Experience of working with the NHS in a commercial capacity.
- Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining commercial customer relationships in a demanding, service-oriented environment.
- Ability to identify and develop new service and commercial opportunities.
- Ability to define appropriate offerings and project-manage their introduction and ongoing implementation.
