About the Role

The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) supports BMO Private Banking Canada’s Investment Counselors (ICs) with the effective administration, implementation, and monitoring of client investment accounts, ensuring alignment with BMO Private Investment Counsel’s (BPIC) philosophy, strategies, and mandates.

Responsibilities

  • Implement investment recommendations by generating orders and executing transactions in discretionary accounts.
  • Support Investment Counsellors in portfolio administration and management by executing transactions upon request.
  • Maintain low portfolio variability with established investment models to keep performance in line with internal benchmarks.
  • Proactively review client accounts for efficient management using portfolio management software capabilities, ensuring compliance with investment constraints.
  • Liaise with the trading desk to enhance synergies.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Investment Counsellors and provide guidance.
  • Coach, motivate, develop, and counsel Portfolio Associates and Portfolio Assistants in resolving complex issues.
  • Share expertise with team members regarding BPIC’s investment platform and products.
  • Support a work environment that inspires innovation, creativity, collaboration, diversity, and flexibility for change.
  • Provide feedback and support to Regional Directors of Investments.
  • Assist as subject matter experts with ad-hoc projects supporting BMO Private Wealth Canada initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of First Principles, Our Code of Conduct, Ethics, and compliance policies and procedures relating to private client money management to protect the Bank’s assets and clients.

Requirements

  • Credentials and experience sufficient to achieve registration as Advising Representative with Provincial Securities Commissions is required (earned CFA Charter and has gained 12 months of relevant investment management experience in the 36-month period before applying for registration; or received the Canadian Investment Manager designation and has gained 48 months of relevant investment management experience, 12 months of which was gained in the 36-month period before applying for registration) or eligibility to be registered as an Advising Representative - Client Relationship Manager (AR-CRM).
  • University degree
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in the investment and/or financial services industry either in a similar role or within the Private Wealth or Investment Management divisions.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of portfolio management principles and the regulatory environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship management and persuasion skills (verbal, listening and writing).
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Organized with the ability to multi-task and take initiative.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products and familiarity with taxation issues.
  • Strong technical skills and exposure to portfolio management and trading (Charles River – CRIMS and CRA) and book of record software (FIS – Global Plus) is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office, MS Outlook, Bloomberg is an asset.
