About the Role

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking a dedicated professional to join their team. This role involves staff supervision, operations management, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives, all contributing to the mission of ending cancer for life.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews candidates to assess relevant skills and experience.
  • Assesses potential applicants based on position requirements and provides input into selection.
  • Orients new staff, covering departmental overview, job responsibilities, safety guidelines, and policies.
  • Conducts in-service training, demonstrating equipment and supplies, and monitoring skill acquisition.
  • Provides weekly feedback to managers on trainee progress and recommends solutions for problems.
  • Completes Initial Competency Assessment Form and verifies employee competencies within the initial employment period.
  • Instructs employees on cleaning, waste handling, standard precautions, and safety procedures, and is available for consultation.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to staff on performance, recognizing accomplishments and improvements.
  • Documents performance issue discussions and utilizes the Corrective Action Process when needed.
  • Conducts performance appraisal processes and documents employee performance, recommending development plans.
  • Seeks and follows up on staff input regarding operational and staff management improvements.
  • Maintains employee departmental files according to center guidelines.
  • Prepares staff schedules and dispatch sheets, resolving staffing issues and assigning breaks.
  • Prioritizes activities and assigns work to meet workload requirements.
  • Anticipates and responds to special/emergency requests, notifying managers and rearranging workloads.
  • Assigns routine activities fairly to ensure balanced workloads.
  • Develops, revises, and submits staff assignment schedules for approval.
  • Approves vacations and time off according to departmental policy, ensuring adequate coverage.
  • Identifies needs for staff coverage and submits requests for overtime or temporary staff.
  • Ensures maintenance and cleaning work is completed according to policy and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ensures work is completed within specifications and time frames, informing clients of any issues.
  • Communicates necessary information to supervisors and managers of other shifts for smooth transitions.
  • Identifies issues and trends requiring action and makes suggestions to managers.
  • Prepares incident reports documenting accidents.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available by notifying the business management office of needed quantities.
  • Secures and distributes supplies to staff when not available in assigned closets.
  • Monitors and enforces compliance with departmental standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts daily inspections to ensure compliance with Quality Assurance objectives.
  • Completes daily Quality Assurance inspection forms, identifies deficiencies, and ensures correction.
  • Monitors staff compliance with regulatory requirements and policies, providing timely feedback.
  • Provides necessary means for staff compliance and takes corrective action when needed.
  • Participates in and/or assists in the implementation of Performance Improvement Initiatives.
  • Educates staff on Quality Assurance Programs and Performance Improvement Initiatives.
  • Identifies opportunities for system and process improvements and communicates proposals.
  • Participates in testing and piloting performance improvement solutions.
  • Provides recommendations to appropriate performance improvement leaders, teams, and committees.
  • Learns continuous improvement methodologies and philosophies.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and affiliations.
  • Develops and implements an individual developmental plan.
