About the Role
Join our client-facing solution delivery team as a Materials Data Scientist / Scientific Software Developer. You will leverage deep materials and chemistry expertise with AI coding tools to assist industrial researchers in making better R&D decisions by building data-driven models, AI-based decision-support tools, and analysis pipelines. Native-level Japanese fluency is essential for this client-facing role serving Japan’s leading enterprises.
Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end materials informatics solutions, applying materials science, chemistry, and machine learning to translate client R&D problems into architectures.
- Utilize AI coding assistants and autonomous coding agents for data exploration, model prototyping, software development, testing, and documentation.
- Direct AI agents by decomposing problems into tasks, providing domain context and physical constraints, and iterating towards accurate results.
- Solve complex research and product-development problems in collaboration with clients.
- Build and assemble data-driven models, AI-based decision-support tools, and automated analysis pipelines into web-based solutions.
- Design and integrate AI-enabled and agentic capabilities into client solutions.
- Apply judgment on the appropriate use of AI and generative approaches, especially with limited datasets.
- Participate in collaborative development practices like code review, sprint planning, and daily standups.
- Interface directly with clients to define, demonstrate, and refine solutions.
- Handle client data and intellectual property responsibly, using AI tools in approved, secure configurations.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly in Japanese and English to diverse stakeholders.
