About the Role
IWS is seeking a Director of Information Technology to lead the strategy, security, and day-to-day performance of technology across the company. This senior leadership role reports directly to the CFO and will be responsible for building and maturing a scalable IT function that supports a growing, geographically dispersed workforce. This is a high-impact opportunity for a hands-on technology leader who can set long-term IT strategy, strengthen cybersecurity, modernize core business systems, and lead the integration of technology, data, and infrastructure from newly acquired companies.
Responsibilities
- Own the enterprise IT strategy and roadmap, aligning technology investments with IWS's growth, operational, and financial objectives.
- Serve as the primary technology advisor to the CFO and executive team, translating business goals into practical technology plans and clear, prioritized initiatives.
- Develop and manage the IT operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery and a strong return on technology spend.
- Establish IT governance, standards, policies, and KPIs, and report regularly on performance, risk, and roadmap progress.
- Own the company's cybersecurity program, including risk assessment, controls, monitoring, incident response, and employee security awareness.
- Protect company, customer, and project data across all locations and business units, ensuring appropriate access controls, backup, and disaster-recovery capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, contractual, and cyber-insurance requirements; coordinate assessments, audits, and remediation.
- Partner with operations and engineering to address security considerations for connected control, automation, and monitoring systems (OT/SCADA) associated with treatment equipment.
- Own the implementation (as applicable) and optimization of core business systems — ERP, project management, CRM, financial, HRIS, and field/service applications.
- Drive standardization of processes and data across business units to improve reporting, forecasting, and operational visibility for leadership.
- Champion data quality, integration, and analytics so the organization can make faster, better-informed decisions.
- Ensure reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure — networks, cloud services, collaboration tools, telephony, and endpoints — across offices, manufacturing facilities, and remote/field teams.
- Deliver responsive end-user support and a positive technology experience for a distributed workforce, including field and traveling personnel.
- Maintain business continuity and disaster-recovery plans, and lead their testing and continuous improvement.
- Lead IT due diligence, integration planning, and execution for acquisitions, consolidating acquired brands onto common, secure, and well-supported platforms.
- Standardize infrastructure, applications, identity, and security across newly acquired companies while minimizing disruption to their operations.
- Build repeatable playbooks and a scalable integration model that supports IWS's ongoing acquisition strategy.
- Build, lead, and develop the internal IT team, and manage relationships with managed-service providers, software vendors, and consultants.
- Negotiate contracts and manage vendor performance to ensure service levels, value, and accountability.
- Foster a service-oriented, security-conscious culture that treats internal teams as valued customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years in IT leadership or management, ideally within a multi-site company.
- Demonstrated success owning cybersecurity, infrastructure, and core business-system initiatives end-to-end.
- Proven ability to develop and execute technology strategy while managing IT budgets and vendors.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to advise executives and translate technical topics for non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel periodically to company and acquired-company sites as needed.
- Experience integrating IT during mergers and acquisitions, including consolidating platforms across acquired businesses.
- Background in industrial, manufacturing, engineering, construction, utilities, or water/wastewater sectors.
