About the Role

As a Part-Time Mechanic with Monroe Ambulance, you will play a vital role in keeping our emergency response fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community. Your technical expertise will directly support life-saving operations.

Responsibilities

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation to watch and listens for causes of failure
  • Diagnoses electrical and computer control devices using appropriate testing equipment
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices
  • Lubricates and cleans parts
  • Starts devices to test their performance
  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make, repair, and rebuild parts
  • Initiates purchase order for parts and machines
  • Repairs electrical equipment
  • Performs preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis for all fleet vehicles
  • Completes major fabrication work, including body work, painting, and installation of wheelchair lifts
  • Performs road service calls to evaluate and repair failed vehicles and equipment
  • Communicates timely to Supervisors and Dispatchers regarding vehicles off road for service and repair, including target return times
  • Performs New York State D.O.T. inspections of road vehicles
  • Road tests equipment and vehicles
  • Diagnoses chronic repair problems and devises permanent repair resolution plans
  • Operates snow removal equipment
  • Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair as needed

Requirements

  • Must have own tools
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Minimum of Two (2) years as an Automotive Technician
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year certificate from college or technical school
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Skills

  • Technical skills to diagnosis, electrical and mechanical repairs
  • Effective and professional communications skills
  • Basic computer skills
