About the Role

The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will be a fitness content expert responsible for managing and programming integrated well-being initiatives. This role involves growing, implementing, and evaluating movement and exercise programs, serving as the primary strength and conditioning coach for club sports, and supervising student employees.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an integrated health and wellness program model.
  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for club sport teams, general student population, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with the Club Sport Athletic Trainer to develop rehabilitation programs for club athletes.
  • Assist the campus-appointed medical director with individuals' health-related needs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by creating educational content and seminars on strength, conditioning, and wellness.
  • Provide management, marketing, and evaluation of a comprehensive fitness program aligned with RecWell’s eight dimensions of well-being.
  • Expand the Lift & Learn program for the general population.
  • Expand group fitness opportunities to include dynamic weekly classes.
  • Facilitate strength-based classes hosted in the weight room.
  • Assess and evaluate programs using KPIs and data; prepare quarterly and annual reports.
  • Supervise and monitor the performance of student employees.
  • Recommend program-related purchases and assist with annual budget projections.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community partners.
  • Design all phases of training for club sports, including assessing and evaluating athletes’ physical performance, tracking progress, and adjusting programs.
  • Provide education workshops for participants to practice movements, ask questions, and receive coaching feedback.
  • Incorporate nutrition into all aspects of the strength program.
  • Facilitate and teach weekly fitness classes.
  • Maintain relevant wellness certifications to expand wellness programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) or more years of experience working as a coach, assistant coach, or intern in strength and conditioning.
  • Possession of one of the following certifications: NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, NSCA Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach, or CSCCA Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified.

Skills

  • Knowledge of strength training, speed, agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate a variety of student-athletes.
  • Ability to initiate, develop, and maintain contacts for an effective strength and conditioning program.
  • Ability to convey a clear and concise message verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet goals.
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems.

  • Upstate NY

Work Type

  • Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required
  • Local travel between campus locations only
  • Incidental driving possible, but not required
