About the Role
UCP Long Island is seeking a part-time Recreation Therapist to provide support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. This role involves structuring, incorporating, and monitoring meaningful individualized group activities.
Responsibilities
- Develops and conducts a program of meaningful activities including activities that are intellectually stimulating, augment health maintenance, encourage community participation, and involve volunteers.
- Plans, evaluates, and structures a recreation program integrated into daily activity schedules, including treatment goals and objectives.
- Creates a monthly recreation calendar of activities and outings for program participants and staff.
- Ensures availability of equipment and supplies for programming and leisure-time activities.
- Maintains current individual information, including annual evaluations of strengths, needs, and recreational skills, as well as interim reviews and monthly summaries.
- Ensures all goals and records comply with State and Federal regulations.
- Plans, researches, and develops community outings and coordinates transportation.
- Evaluates and helps achieve treatment goals in conjunction with other disciplines.
- Participates in decision-making regarding overall programming and resident well-being.
- Attends scheduled quarterly, annual, and team meetings.
- Supervises, instructs, and demonstrates programs and activities to staff, providing follow-up.
- Coordinates a schedule of planned activities and provides hands-on training to participants and staff.
- Conducts on-site in-service training for staff.
- Attends community activities with staff/participants as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university.
- One to six months of related experience.
- Valid NYS Driver license.
- At least 1-year licensed driving experience required.
