About the Role
This position supports the VTrans Materials & Research Section by performing technical review, development, coordination, and maintenance of materials-related specifications, acceptance requirements, and program documentation. The work involves cross-functional coordination to support consistent application of materials requirements and effective delivery of construction and materials information. As a member of the Construction and Materials Bureau, this position contributes to critical components of project delivery by supporting the processes, standards, and coordination necessary for successful transportation construction.
Responsibilities
- Performing technical review, development, coordination, and maintenance of materials-related specifications, acceptance requirements, and program documentation.
- Reviewing and revising standard and special specifications for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with Agency requirements and applicable industry standards.
- Establishing and evaluating material acceptance criteria.
- Coordinating with internal staff and external stakeholders to support effective specification development and implementation.
- Supporting the organization and delivery of materials-related components of digital construction plan sets in accordance with Agency digital delivery standards.
- Maintaining and managing key materials program documentation to ensure information remains current, properly controlled, and aligned with Agency procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND two (2) year of engineering experience.
- Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND four (4) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.
- Private means of transportation must be available for fieldwork.
- Ability to work in both office and field settings.
- Willingness to work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, as required.
- Ability to handle potential exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions.
- Ability to traverse rough terrain and bodies of water.
