About the Role

This position supports the VTrans Materials & Research Section by performing technical review, development, coordination, and maintenance of materials-related specifications, acceptance requirements, and program documentation. The role involves reviewing and revising standard and special specifications, establishing and evaluating material acceptance criteria, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, it supports the organization and delivery of materials-related components of digital construction plan sets and maintains key materials program documentation. As part of the Construction and Materials Bureau, this position contributes to critical components of project delivery, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency in transportation construction.

Responsibilities

Perform technical review, development, coordination, and maintenance of materials-related specifications, acceptance requirements, and program documentation.
Review and revise standard and special specifications for accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
Establish and evaluate material acceptance criteria.
Coordinate with internal staff and external stakeholders to support specification development and implementation.
Support the organization and delivery of materials-related components of digital construction plan sets.
Maintain and manage key materials program documentation.
Ensure materials program documentation remains current, properly controlled, and aligned with Agency procedures.
Coordinate cross-functionally to support consistent application of materials requirements.
Support effective delivery of construction and materials information.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND four (4) years of engineering experience.
Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.
Private means of transportation must be available for office and field settings.
Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions.
Fieldwork may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water.
Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required.
Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
