About the Role

Under the direction of the chief technologist, performs Cat Scan or MRI Procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures and assigns work to other staff technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Enters patient data into RIS and other appropriate computer systems.
  • Places the patient on the scan table in the correct position for the scan.
  • Obtains appropriate scout image for procedure.
  • Ensures error-free data entry in computer systems.
  • Achieves room turnaround time of 5 minutes after completion of previous case.
  • Works in parallel to ensure efficiency of nursing, medical, and technological staff.
  • Assists the radiologist during biopsy procedures as needed.
  • Monitors the progression of biopsy procedures from the control room.
  • Operates injector when necessary.
  • Maintains error-free sterile technique.
  • Maintains constant awareness of procedure progression.
  • Sets proper protocols and sequences to obtain high-quality images for diagnosis.
  • Maintains a retake rate of less than 3 percent due to improper protocol and sequence settings or other controllable reasons.
  • Maintains adherence to imaging workflow in IDXRad and G.E. Centricity (PACS).
  • Tracks exams in IDXRad throughout all steps.
  • Verifies images in PACS to ensure correct patient, exam type labeling, and orientation.
  • Photographs and labels scan images.
  • Processes and displays final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
  • Maintains high-quality error-free labeling of photographic images and displays them in proper order.
  • Maintains all necessary records of image slices, injections, etc.
  • Observes all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
  • Trains other associates and students in CAT Scan or MRI Procedures.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the assigned area.
  • Performs duties of a 4T technologist as needed.
  • Performs other related assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • GED Required
  • AS Preferred
  • Satisfactory completion of formal radiological technology training in CT or MR and meets the requirements for certification in either CT or MR
  • Experience with Cat Scan Systems and, or MRI Systems
  • Experience with PACS
  • Experience with RIS
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist - Injection Required
  • ARRT Required
