About the Role
This position will be an integral part of the legal department, providing support to attorneys and the department as a whole. The paralegal will focus on employment law matters but may also support litigation, intellectual property, and commercial/contract matters. Responsibilities include administrative duties like file and matter management, as well as substantive tasks such as drafting position papers and preparing budgets.
Responsibilities
- Support the attorney responsible for employment law in all areas, including assisting with hiring and separations, restrictive covenants, accommodations, and wage and hour matters.
- Assist with preparing, reviewing, and negotiating employment-related policies, procedures, and agreements.
- Assist with investigating and responding to employee claims, preparing position papers, responding to attorney correspondence, and collecting information for contentious matters.
- Support compensation and benefits matters, including attending retirement plan committee meetings and preparing minutes.
- Assist with managing outside counsel and overseeing budgets.
- Support departmental initiatives concerning outside counsel management, budgeting, training and development, and exploration of AI.
- Respond to subpoenas, garnishment orders, and other third-party matters.
- Assist with other tasks and support other legal practice areas as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a legal or similar focus, or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program from a well-regarded academic institution.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe).
- Exceptional writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
- Outstanding organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, exercising sound judgment and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
- Prior experience in a legal environment, such as a law firm, corporate legal department or legal clinic, or a role of similar intellectual rigor in a corporate, financial or government setting, is highly preferred.
