About the Role

This position serves as a key member of the health care team, providing essential administrative and patient support services to ensure prompt and professional service for patients, providers, and other team members. The role involves performing all clerical functions within the Patient Services setting.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors promptly and professionally.
  • Assists with incoming and outgoing calls and fax transmissions.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Forwards calls, faxes, and correspondence to the appropriate team member.
  • Enters and verifies patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Schedules and reschedules patient appointments, optimizing provider schedule utilization.
  • Collects co-pays, co-insurance, and self-pay balances, and offers the sliding fee program.
  • Checks patients out, including scheduling follow-up appointments and processing referrals.
  • Reconciles daily payment batch amounts and reports discrepancies.
  • Performs opening and closing procedures for departments.
  • Provides excellent customer service in all interactions.
  • Protects patient confidentiality in accordance with policy.
  • Ensures timely response to insurance company inquiries.
  • Attends all required training and meetings.
  • Assists with training other Patient Services staff.
  • Classifies and barcodes documents for electronic medical records.
  • Reviews and follows policies for releasing medical records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one-year work experience in a medical office setting or equivalent training/education.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Experience working with a diverse population.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with EMR and knowledge of billing is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
