About the Role

As a Software Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing our endpoint security solution for macOS. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering outcomes primarily by directing agentic AI development tools and applying engineering judgment to steer, challenge and rigorously review their output. Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain the macOS client at the heart of our endpoint security solution, ensuring it remains fast, resilient, and unobtrusive.
Shape the architecture of new features and services, providing technical direction on complex projects.
Review functional and technical requirements to identify gaps and limitations, propose simplifications, and communicate ideas effectively with cross-functional teams.
Ensure code quality through rigorous code review and pull-request feedback, meeting unit testing and departmental guidelines.
Develop and improve build, deployment, and test automation within the team.
Identify, prioritize, and resolve technical debt within the team.
Collaborate with the team to ensure work items are well-defined and understood, delivering value with quality on every sprint.
Investigate and resolve customer issues escalated to engineering, feeding learnings back into the product.
Track emerging macOS and security technologies and propose improvements to the team’s tools and development processes.
Become the go-to development expert for at least one area of the product.

Requirements

A degree in a software engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
A strong software engineering background with significant hands-on development experience and specialist depth in at least one technical area.
Hands-on macOS platform development, with proficiency in Swift, Objective-C and/or C++, and experience building systems-level or endpoint security software.
Hands-on experience with macOS, including management and development of launch daemons and launch agents, unified logging, and development of XPC components.
Demonstrable, hands-on experience directing agentic AI development tools such as Claude Code, including framing problems, challenging weak output, and critically reviewing generated code.
Experience of formal software development methodologies.
At least 2 years’ commercial software engineering experience for the Software Development Engineer level; typically, 5 or more years, including demonstrable technical leadership, for the Senior Software Development Engineer level.
Proactively learns new technologies and quickly builds required skills.
Mentors other team members on product workings.
Adapts well to change and thrives in multi-disciplinary teams, maintaining performance and supporting others as priorities shift.
Identifies opportunities to improve development activities, reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
