About the Role
Grow Therapy's Developer Experience team aims to enhance the speed and satisfaction of its ~120 engineers by treating developer tools as a product. This Staff Software Engineer role will set technical direction for developer tools, identify and solve bottlenecks, and drive adoption of new standards across the engineering organization. The role is hands-on and AI-forward, focusing on building agentic developer workflows and integrating AI into the development loop.
Responsibilities
- Own the highest-leverage developer-experience problems across engineering end to end, deciding which bottleneck is worth solving, designing the approach, and driving org-wide adoption.
- Set and evolve engineering-wide standards for how teams build, test, and ship, and do the alignment work to make them stick as the org grows.
- Improve build systems, monorepo tooling, CI/CD pipeline performance, and test reliability and framework strategy to make the codebase fast to work in.
- Set golden paths for engineers working with AI, identify high-leverage integration points in the development loop, and maintain Grow's position at the forefront of AI development tooling.
- Drive the technical strategy for breaking up the monolith, including the incremental migration path and the necessary test-isolation and build tooling.
- Embed with product teams to understand their workflows and use their feedback as product input.
- Raise the bar for engineers through design reviews, mentorship, and high-quality shipped work.
Requirements
- Deep developer experience, developer productivity, or platform engineering experience where internal engineers were the customer, or developer tools were built as the product at a developer-tools company.
- Experience owning problems at scale, such as monorepo tooling, build systems (Bazel or similar), CI performance for large test suites, or test framework migrations, with demonstrable outcomes.
- Product mindset towards developer tools, defining success metrics, and measuring adoption and developer satisfaction.
- Genuine excitement about AI development tooling with practical experience.
- Python ecosystem depth.
- Experience with GitHub Actions at scale.
- Prior experience driving standards across a 100+ engineer organization.
- Experience building developer-facing AI tooling such as coding agents, AI code review, LLM developer workflows, or MCP, with a grounded view of their effectiveness.
