About the Role

Ascape Landscape & Construction is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Plant Buyer & Nursery Manager to oversee plant purchasing and manage daily operations at a five-acre nursery. This is a hands-on leadership role for an individual with extensive plant knowledge, strong project management skills, and a passion for sourcing, negotiation, and nursery management.

Responsibilities

  • Source plant material, solicit quotes, compare vendors, and negotiate pricing based on budget, quality, availability, and lead times.
  • Support project managers and estimators with pricing, availability, and substitution guidance.
  • Track upcoming purchasing needs and flag availability issues before they become schedule problems.
  • Communicate directly with clients on plant-related updates and substitutions.
  • Build and maintain strong nursery/supplier relationships, and source new vendors as needed.
  • Coordinate with PMs, vendors, field crews, and nursery staff on deliveries and install timing.
  • Receive, inspect, and document incoming deliveries.
  • Supervise 3–5 nursery employees and assign daily tasks.
  • Monitor irrigation, plant health, and seasonal protection across the nursery.
  • Prep and verify material for installation — right plant, right quantity, right condition.
  • Maintain purchasing records, vendor quotes, and inventory tracking.

Requirements

  • Experience in plant purchasing, nursery management, horticulture, or landscape construction.
  • Strong knowledge of trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, and commonly specified cultivars.
  • Sharp negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort managing multiple projects and shifting timelines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate daily work assignments in Spanish.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience buying for commercial landscape construction.
  • Familiarity with Northeast wholesale nurseries and suppliers.
  • Understanding of plant sizing, root-ball specs, and seasonal digging restrictions.
  • Ability to read landscape plans and plant schedules.
  • Experience with Monday.com, Canva, or similar project-tracking tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
