About the Role
The Director serves as a nursing leader for Long Term Care, responsible for leading nursing services and practice in alignment with the organization's vision and values. This role oversees the daily coordination of nursing operations, including goal setting, talent management, fiscal operations, and regulatory compliance. The Director collaborates with leaders to drive quality, financial performance, resident satisfaction, and recruitment initiatives, fostering an integrated healthcare delivery system and promoting resident advocacy and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Effectively recruits and retains talent, fostering a collaborative, team-based environment focused on continuous improvement and engagement.
- Monitors and recognizes performance, supporting professional development and providing guidance on operational questions.
- Maintains visibility through rounding and participation in feedback tools, developing plans to address feedback and measure outcomes.
- Ensures compliance with HR processes, including evaluations, position control, and Workday functions.
- Supports partnerships with organizations for student rotations and placements.
- Develops, maintains, and manages staffing levels to support clinical care.
- Monitors and manages variances in clinical, regulatory, and financial operations.
- Partners with administration to achieve financial stewardship through budget management.
- Follows system and divisional guidelines on payroll, incentives, and staffing grids.
- Collaborates with medical, professional, and support service leaders to coordinate nursing care programs.
- Designs mechanisms to monitor the delivery of nursing care.
- Supports the MDS process to ensure adequate clinical documentation for reimbursement and quality outcomes.
- Develops and implements nursing and patient care services policies and procedures to enhance operations.
- Develops and maintains nursing supply and expense mitigation and improvement opportunities.
- Executes and sustains quality initiatives across nursing and care services.
- Develops programs and strategies to monitor the quality of nursing care, operations, and outcomes.
- Coordinates QAPI plans and continuous quality improvement initiatives, including survey preparation.
- Ensures nursing departments develop a robust QAPI/auditing schedule for clinical and regulatory compliance.
- Identifies trends in clinical outcomes and develops plans for improvement.
- Participates in planning and implementing programs that support people and care process development.
- Focuses on maintaining and growing practice standards to improve nursing care, experience, and satisfaction.
- Responds timely to resident, staff, and family concerns.
- Partners with physicians, providers, care teams, and administration to meet or exceed care goals.
- Facilitates program development and improvement for clinical care.
- Manages errors through the Just Culture philosophy.
- Assesses and recommends improvements for the organization and structure of nursing care services.
- Ensures nursing care services conform to business area policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Coordinates with the Administrator to ensure facility investigations are completed per NYS DOH and CMS regulations.
- Participates and leads during regulatory body surveys or audits.
- Drives process improvements focused on care delivery and risk management.
- Provides leadership to ensure compliance with licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.
- Plans and evaluates services within assigned departments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor in Nursing required.
- 2 years of nursing leadership experience required.
- 2 years experience in nursing required; preferably in long term care, rehabilitation or complex care.
