About the Role
Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled manual tasks and duties in support of general maintenance services, including plumbing, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical repairs to maintain building components and equipment across the Polytechnic Campuses.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate service providers, acquire quotes, and procure resources for needed contractors.
- Provide plumbing, mechanical, and electrical maintenance and repairs.
- Perform skilled trades for repairs and other duties, including HVAC maintenance.
- Assist with building automation coordination by adjusting system parameters.
- Make recommendations for material and equipment purchases.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two-year Certificate of Apprenticeship in General Maintenance or related field.
- Completion of Locksmithing Courses from The Association of Ontario Locksmiths.
- Minimum of five (5) years of practical, related work experience in building and equipment repair/maintenance in industrial, commercial, or institutional environments.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute own work.
- Adherence to policies and procedures, including WHIMIS, Building Codes, and material specifications.
- Good judgment, accuracy, attention to detail, and safety consciousness.
- Ability to stoop, bend, work in tight spaces, and lift over 20 kg (44 lbs).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization (EDII).
- Proof of degrees, credentials, or equivalencies from accredited institutions may be required.
