About the Role

Under the direction of the ultrasound attending or the Director of Ultrasound and Site Administrator, performs a variety of ultrasound examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Uses independent judgement and initiative to a I described scanning methods for purposes of medical diagnosis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sonograms of indicated anatomical areas using available modalities following prescribed protocols.
  • Ensure complete sonographic examinations as required for diagnostic purposes.
  • Utilize correct patient positioning based on patient habitus and exam requirements.
  • Optimize and perform thorough scanning techniques for all exams.
  • Prepare a preliminary written impression of completed sonogram.
  • Supply initial impression for review by attending in charge for all exams performed.
  • Interview patients for identification, patient education and detailed clinical history.
  • Perform appropriate exam and ensure patient awareness with zero error tolerance for patient identification.
  • Maintain quality patient care, including IV pump operation, oxygen delivery, and patient modesty.
  • Maximize patient safety and comfort with a zero incidence rate.
  • Clean and maintain ultrasound equipment between procedures.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and infection control.
  • Monitor and maintain performance of all equipment.
  • Ensure proper equipment function to manufacturers specifications.
  • Adhere to manufacturers specifications.
  • Ensure safe handling and security of ultrasound equipment.
  • Minimize equipment downtime from mishandling and loss.
  • Maintain film jackets, patient records, and exam verification in charts.
  • Be trained and utilize ASOBGYN proficiently.
  • Ensure accurate medical documentation of procedures in charts utilizing ASOBGYN.
  • Correlate x-ray, lab results, and other clinical data.
  • Correlate clinical and ultrasound findings for maximum yield.
  • Maintain the standard of Montefiore RESPECT in the working environment.

Requirements

  • High School Required
  • AS Preferred
  • Must have passed both Physics and Obstetries to be certified by the ARDMS.
  • Requires 30 Continuing Education credits per three year rolling triennium to maintain active ARDMS status within the Department of Obs/Gyn & Women's Health.
  • Graduation from an accredited training program in diagnostic medical sonography which meets requirements for certification by ARDMS.
  • Experience and skills in obstetrics and gynecology are necessary, which level of expertise will be determined by the Director of Ultrasound.
