About the Role

Under the direction of a radiologist, performs CAT scan or MRI procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

  • Enters patient data into RIS and other appropriate computer systems.
  • Places patients on the scan table in the correct position for the scan.
  • Obtains appropriate scout images for procedures.
  • Sets up protocols and sequences to obtain high-quality images for radiologist diagnosis.
  • Assists the radiologist during biopsy procedures as needed.
  • Monitors the progression of biopsy procedures from the control room.
  • Operates injectors when necessary.
  • Photographs and labels scan images, processing and displaying final images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Establishes and confirms vascular access and injects contrast according to department protocol.
  • Maintains records of image slices, injections, etc.
  • Observes all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
  • Trains other associates and students in CAT Scan or MRI procedures.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the assigned area.
  • Performs duties of a 4T technologist as needed.
  • Performs other related assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training.
  • Meets requirements for certification by the ARRT.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist - Injection.
  • ARRT certified.

Skills

  • Error-free data entry in computer systems.
  • Room turnaround time of 5 minutes.
  • Ability to work in parallel to ensure efficiency of staff.
  • Retake rate of less than 3 percent.
  • Error-free sterile technique.
  • Constant awareness of procedure progression.
  • High-quality, error-free labeling of photographic images.
  • Adequate access should be ascertained prior to contrast media injection.
  • Verifying catheter appropriateness for injection.
  • Assessing access for backflow of blood, saline flush, and/or test injection.
  • Error-free documentation of necessary records.
  • Error-free observance of radiation safety procedures.
  • Knowledgeable information while training others.
  • Clean and orderly work area.
  • High quality cooperative performance.
